Fueling Market Penetration in The AEC Industry Using Virtual Reality

VR disruptions are transforming the way building product manufacturers are showcasing, marketing and selling their products The architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry consist of multiple stakeholders working together to bring a project to fruition. Building product manufacturers and suppliers play a crucial role in supporting architects and designers. Traditionally, building product manufacturers and suppliers have reached out to design and architecture firms through a tedious process of marketing that includes preparing, stocking and distributing samples and catalogs which regularly became outdated with the introduction of new product lines, creating multiple physical mockups, and organizing lunch-and-learn sessions at their premises to showcase their products to architects and designers. This process has led to a lot of wastage in time and costs, as well as loss of additional revenue opportunities. Most smaller suppliers have found it difficult to showcase t...

Collaborate better and save time using Trezi

Image
Collaboration is the key to successfully delivering projects in any industry, and it matters all the more in industries such as Architecture-Engineering-Construction (AEC) which are fragmented, and where there are a number of stakeholders involved. Better collaboration not only reduces the time taken for projects but also reduces errors and result in significant cost savings to help bring the vision of the client closer to reality, faster. And in the AEC industry , efficient collaboration between the client and all other stakeholders is critical to reducing iterations to manifest designs into physical form with minimal errors. There are several issues that the industry faces where better collaboration is required. To understand in detail, we studied several projects to gain a better understanding of the issues. Here are the key pain-points we address with Trezi: Visualization One of the key issues that adversely impact a fabulous design experience is a lack of understan...

VR In AEC: The Future Of Design Collaboration

Immersive collaboration is helping stakeholders produce better work, reduce inefficiencies and save costs across the delivery value chain. The AEC design environment is characterized by its reliance on multifarious collaborating parties spread across many different organizations and the entire project delivery lifecycle. In the AEC industry, collaboration typically involves interactions and collaborative decision-making amongst architects, building owners and operators, facility managers, construction professionals, contractors, engineering consultants, and building product manufacturers. Today, the mode of collaboration relies primarily on the use of blueprints and 3D modeling software that lead to considerable back-and-forth iterations on meetings, emails, and calls. Design teams have increased in size and geographically dispersed; design cycle time has become more compressed, project deadlines are rigid, the amount of overall project data has become unwieldy, and in many c...

How Architects can use Virtual Reality (VR) to Communicate Design Intent

As a practicing architect, I often found it difficult to communicate design intent to our clients. While working on a building project, we often used 3D modeling software /authoring tools but communicated the schematic and conceptual designs to clients and other stakeholders by generating 2D static renderings from fixed viewpoints on paper, Powerpoint presentations or renders on a flat computer screen. I realized that what we visualize, understand, interpret  and absorb from these traditional tools to communicate design intent – the images on our screen, the 2D static renders, or the floorplans and elevations on paper – are often disconnected from the reality of what’s planned to be built inside and outside of the front door, and none of the architecture software programs available could solve this problem. Since this medium is neither to-scale nor immersive,  clients often do not fully understand an architect’s design intent, leading to significant collaboration-base...
